I am a qualified wedding celebrant, based in North Surrey, and am happy to travel throughout the southeast to fulfil your celebrancy needs. When you choose me, you are choosing to be unique!
My role begins with a meeting to go through the possibilities and the kind of ceremony you might have in your mind. Remember that the legal side of weddings is not within my remit. You will not officially be 'married' by me, but all the other, highly memorable parts of a ceremony can be officiated by me!
As a friendly, outgoing, warm person, with humour and sensitivity, I hope you will find in me, the ideal person to guide and support you through all the decisions to make your day special. I am a deeply spiritual person with strong respect for other cultures. If you tend towards the Traditional with sparks of magical moments, I'm your girl!
Whether you are marrying for the first time or one or both of you is re-marrying, you will want your day to be exclusively about YOU!
The wonderful thing about your celebrant ceremony is that it can be held anywhere you like! You may already have your ideal venue in mind – this could be a hotel, a stately home, a beautiful garden setting, a barn or a woodland. Each setting will have its unique characteristics and lend itself to different ideas. I personally don’t offer ceremonies under water or bungee jumping, but I don't mind other unusual settings!
I discuss with you how you envisage the ceremony and guide you through a 'typical' suggested order of events.
Everybody loves a love story, and part of a celebrant wedding ceremony, should you choose it, is to reveal the story of YOU. We all love to hear how a couple met, what they first thought of each other, when they realised this was 'it' and what their plans are for the future. Telling your story is a big part of the service and as a published author, I can’t wait to tell yours!
Depending where you are holding the ceremony, you may be able to have live music or it will be set up for recordings. As a classical professional musician, having sung at many weddings, I am able to suggest a wide range of suitable pieces or ideas. There is something very fitting about classical music that fits the occasion of a wedding and I can chat with you about this. Often this is something people feel unfamiliar with and unsure about. For example, you may like the idea of a harpist or a string quartet or some jazz musicians. This is a speciality of mine and I have many contacts within the music world, if this is something you would enjoy pursuing. On the other hand, you may want your favourite recording or have talented musical friends.
Your ceremony can include readings of poetry, literature, tributes, favourite sacred texts or words from a song. There are many different options and it can be overwhelming. My experience will help guide you so you find exactly the right pieces for you.
A lovely thing about Celebrant weddings is that you can write your own vows. They can be secret from each other as a surprise or you can both say the same things. They can be read by you during the ceremony, or I can take the pressure away and have you repeat the vows after me. All things are possible!
You may have had the legal side of your wedding a few days before the ‘main event’ but you can save the exchange of rings for this ceremony. It’s a wonderful personal moment in the ceremony and something that unifies the whole event. It can be nerve wracking but again, it is my job to calm nerves and be there with you, offering, excuse the pun, a helping hand!
You will have your official marriage certificate from your legal wedding. While there is no marriage certificate as such to sign in a celebrant led ceremony, many couples express a desire to have that kind of memento and of course it makes for a lovely and traditional photograph opportunity. I can create a certificate with your approval and have it professionally printed, or you are or course, welcome to source your own.
Many Celebrants offer additional symbolic rituals, special little touches within the ceremony and if you have already witnessed this or seen something, please do mention it. If it is something I have yet to offer, I will investigate and let you know if I am able to help. Many people find the ring warming ceremony, or hand fasting or unity candles a lovely addition for example.
Should you decide to ask me to officiate, I offer, as part of the package, a FREE rehearsal of any spoken elements (if a surprise I can work with individuals rather than the couple together) online and show you how to create a stronger voice, how to overcome nerves, how to speak the lines you want with clarity and at the right speed and loud enough so that the back row can hear! I work with teachers in the classroom on improving their voices and senior leadership teams in businesses and they all comment on how they feel more confident after our work together. Something to bear in mind if you think nerves are going to be an issue. Excitement of course will ALWAYS be part of it!
Above all I want your day to be especially memorable and contain everything to be the start of your incredible journey together.
Something many of us lucky enough to be in long relationships feel called to do, is to renew our vows. It makes for a beautiful moment to restate that commitment to each other in front of family and friends, some of whom may well have been in attendance at the original ceremony! The vows can contain more personal wording. Maybe you wish to express how blessed you feel still having the love of your companion or want to thank them for their continued support through the rough times as well as good.
However many years you wish to celebrate, vow renewal is a deeply meaningful way to do it.
I work with you on the words/ideas/music choices – exactly as I would if you had approached me as a younger couple - and we put together something to see you through the next X number of years!
